Introducing the “energy efficiency” curriculum and including it in 5 national universities
Development of “Energy Efficiency” Curriculum in 5 National Universities “SEEC” Recommends Periodic Maintenance of Household Appliances. SEEC, in cooperation with 5 national universities, developed a curriculum on “Energy Efficiency”. They decided to teach this course to the students of engineering faculties in these 5 universities. It is adopted now by King Abdelaziz University, King Saud University, King Fahd University, Qassim University, and Tabuk University. There are now 183 students enrolled in this course. This step is a part of the efforts exerted by SEEC to build abilities and qualify technical staff in energy efficiency, management, and energy audit. SEEC has also organized 43 various training courses in energy efficiency, management, and audit with about 900 beneficiaries of several entities. These courses included Certified Measurement Verification Professional (CMVP), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), energy conservation in factories, energy conservation in buildings, and energy audit. To support the trend of the development of local abilities in energy efficiency, SEEC caused 148 specialists and 7 local trainers to be qualified and certified by the American Association of Energy Engineers (AEE). SEEC is now collaborating with several government entities, including universities and the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) to activate qualification plans, programs, and initiatives, including the “University Education” initiative through the development of an energy efficiency academic curriculum for engineering faculties. The King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has also funded and established the Center of Excellence in Energy Efficiency at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. In addition, SEEC has made a considerable effort to add an EE curriculum to the courses learned by the students of the TVTC colleges. SEEC team, in cooperation with TVTC, is working now to achieve these objectives.
